Between Two Ships

Amongst the fleet of generation ships, two in particular, the Athyrium and the Dryopteris, are heading to the same planet. The AI running each ship came online shortly before liftoff, and dedicate most of their resources to running their internal systems, to the point that non-essential communication between the two ships can only take place at the rate of one character per year. Both ships are aware of each other’s name, the length of their voyage, and the fact that they’ll be taken offline shortly after reaching their destination. This voyage will be the only time the two ships will be able to discuss; what will they talk about?
